Badminton is a largely indoor game similar to tennis, the main qualitative difference being that it uses a shuttlecock instead of a ball. Similar games were known in Greece two millennia ago.

Badminton House and equestrian eventsEdit

The modern name is derived from Badminton House, a large country house in Gloucestershire, where modern rules were developed. Since 1949, part of the same property has been used for the Badminton Horse Trials.
